Milwaukee WI

The Equal Rights Commission is one of three agencies in Milwaukee charged with redressing employment and housing discrimination. Created as the Mayor’s Committee on Inter-Racial Relations in 1944, the Equal Rights Commission has experienced several changes in name and function.  As a result of the 2008 Paid Sick Days Ordinance in Milwaukee, the Mayor's office resumed the Commission.  This is a huge victory for supporters of paid sick days, human rights activists, and the entire community.

Our community still faces some of the same challenges as in the past because undoubtedly discriminatory practices continue. The ongoing evaluation process now must consider how the Commission functions relative to the implications inherent in the city’s changing demographics along with its function as an enforcement agency.

Please join us at the next Equal Rights Commission Meeting.
