Celebrate Women's Equality by Standing for Paid Sick Days
- Local Chapter: Milwaukee
Tomorrow, Friday August 26, 2011, marks the 91st anniversary of women in the United States being given the right to vote. On this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified, and women moved one step further from being considered “2nd class” citizens to men.
In commemoration of this fateful day, 9to5 will be holding its National Day of Action. Each of our chapters will be hosting its own event to pay tribute to women and their contribution to movement building, as well as grassroots organizing efforts that have benefited society as a whole.
Milwaukee will be holding its event from 3-6pm at Our Next Generation (3421 W Lisbon Ave) and continuing the fight for Paid Sick Days. The event will focus in on building leaders within our community, gathering signatures for the national Healthy Families Act, as well as offering a chance for local residents and community member organizations to partner together for future community building.
Join us for a day of activism featuring the following:
- “How a Bill Becomes a Law” Training
- On-Site Voter Registration and Information on New Election Laws
- Organizing Opportunities Within The Community
- Paid Sick Days Movement Update
- A Statement by 9to5 Milwaukee Executive Director, Ellen Bravo, on the Importance of the Healthy Families Act
