Community Internship Program in Milwaukee
- Local Chapter: Milwaukee
The Community Internship Program is an opportunity for you to organize and advocate for issues you care about such as ending employment discrimination, raising workers’ hourly wages, and passing flexible workplace policies. Some of the skills we cover include: how to outreach and recruit new members, how to facilitate meetings and how to engage in power mapping and campaign planning…and much more!
Goals of the program are:
1. Leadership Development: train directly affected and emerging leaders within our membership on basics of community organizing , civic engagement, and anti-oppression.
2. Sustained and Integrated Civic Engagement: educate a defined base of people about Photo ID laws, register people to vote, have them pledge to vote connected on issues, and mobilize base to the polls on election day.
3. Build 9to5: visibility of our organization in the community, gather new contacts from our base, gain members, stories, and activists involved in our working groups, and elevate our core issues.
We are looking for members who are involved with 9to5 at some level and want to learn more about our organization, organizing, and policy.
The program runs 12 weeks, at 10 hours/week for $10 an hour.
The interns will be working directly with organizers knocking on doors, at sites in Milwaukee, and doing classroom work.
This is a 12-week program, for 10 hours each week. Pay is $10 per hour.
