Meet New Atlanta Chapter Organizer Cecilia Saenz!
- Local Chapter: Atlanta
I am Cecilia Sáenz the new Organizer who will be working very close with Charmaine in the Fair Eats Campaign!
Just to give you a bit of background information about myself, I was born in Mexico City and had lived in Phoenix, AZ since I was four years old. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary studies with a focus in Political Science and Spanish from Arizona State University; making myself the first in my family to graduate from a post-secondary education institution.
I began my community organizing involvement as a volunteer for the Mi Familia Vota/My Family Votes campaign to get out the vote amongst low propensity Latino voters in Arizona. I was quickly offered a job as an organizer in charge of nine precincts! Since then my experience in organizing has ranged from labor organizing for United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), consumers for the Hungry for Respect campaign, organizing community forums around immigration, citizenship fairs - including a thirty-three hour citizenship fair marathon, organizing within the realm of education, to grassroots campaigns with the latest draconian anti-immigrant laws in Arizona.
I believe that women, specifically working women have the power to change the unjust situations in which they find themselves. Labor organizing has been one of my high interest for quite some time now and having a focus on women is definitely very important for me. Which is why I'm very excited to be part of the 9to5 team and working together to bring about justice to working women in Atlanta!
In unity,
Cecilia Sáenz
