9to5, National Association of Working Women seeks a part-time, short-term project organizer for its San Jose chapter.  9to5 is a grassroots membership organization, founded in 1973, which strengthens women’s ability to work for economic justice.  Our goals are to build leadership among low wage working women and to win improvements in workplace and public policy.  This project will focus on a wage theft campaign in Santa Clara County.

 

Responsibilities: 
  1. Campaign Direction & Supervision:  Plan and carry out local chapter campaign.  Involve members in programs and strategies.  Oversee the development and design of campaign materials.  Administer campaigns (maintain campaign files, contact and member databases, progress reports). 
  2. Member Recruitment/Development:  Plan and carryout constituent outreach.  Identify and train leaders.  Represent chapter campaign in the community.
Qualifications: 

¨     Significant organizing experience with a community, labor or union organization.

¨     Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work well with diverse populations

¨     Familiarity with local county government and public employment law strongly preferred

¨     Ability to work independently.  Good planning skills, time management, ability to prioritize work and account for results

¨     Strong written and oral communication skills

¨     Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and database programs

¨     Car preferred

Compensation: 

This is a 20 hr/week position at $18.00 per hour. It will last 3-5 months, depending on whether health insurance will be needed by the applicant.  9to5 is an affirmative action employer committed to diversity in hiring.
